I've had all the jobs: cleaner, barista, retail sporting goods manager, bartender, customer service rep, horseback riding instructor, exec assistant, career counsellor, program manager, operations director, development coordinator, business affairs director, and entrepreneur.

All that stuff has spanned 5 industries, public and private companies varied in size, and 20+ years.

Holy crap. I really get around.

Throughout my career I've experienced a lot of crazy shit, but the craziest shit of all is how many women I know who think they have to hide who they are and push down what they value to be “successful” (whatever that means).



You think "hustle" and "busy" are oh-so-necessary because, duh, that's how you get ahead and adult and stuff.

You think that you don't deserve to sleep or go on vacation or fucking EAT until you've taken care of everyone else first.

You think health is a luxury that only trophy wives can afford, and if you can just work harder you'll have more time.

Yeah, no.

I used to be so damn tired at the end of each day from playing my assigned part that I had pretty much nothing left in the tank to give to my family or my wellbeing, let alone friends or fun stuff that wasn't, to be honest, totally mindless escapism.

Maybe you can relate.

Do you ever feel like you're living a dual life - kind of like Batman but without Wayne Manor and Alfred and the bazillionaire lifestyle? Also without the vigilantism….hopefully.

Ok, maybe not like Batman. But you get the idea, right?

It wasn't until just a few years ago that I rather unsexily hit my wall of pain, which is much less fun than House of Pain, let me tell you, and finally started consistently practicing this stuff myself instead of simply believing in it.

Because knowing isn't doing, and (even though it sucks to admit it), you won't get somewhere new by doing the same old crapola.


Cue the facepalm because KAPOW, Batman!

As I developed simple but consistent habits geared towards creating work-life alignment, my confidence skyrocketed, I tapped into my "why" (hello stranger!), and I moved out of a career that wasn't working for me to create a one that totally is.

Along the way, because I was self-caring and protecting my energy like a mofo, I got stronger mentally AND physically.

It was truly a (r)evolution. When you elevate yourself, everything around you elevates too.

My relationships with my partner and family deepened, I started taking risks and making big moves (hello, own business!) I wouldn't have even dreamed of before, I got in the best shape of my life, and my everyday routine became simpler but at the same time, a lot more vibrant. Who knew?!

Look, whether you work for yourself or someone else, you're a giver.

You want to feel connected to your work, serve with integrity, and not lose yourself in the process.

So if breaking up with burnout and instead waking up every day excited about what you do and how you do it is your goal too, and if you like or can at least tolerate nerdism, birds, and cats, then you're in the right place.
